Why I began milling my grain:
I was sick and had been for years. Until now I’d been unsuccessful in finding an answer, but by the grace of God, REAL bread entered into my life.
After doing research, I found that the people who were eating freshly milled grains on a daily basis, observed reduced levels of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. I found that their IBS symptoms greatly improved with constipation becoming a thing of the past, and people who had been gluten free for years because of a supposed gluten sensitivity, had no issues eating REAL bread that was made from freshly milled grain. At this point I thought, “what have I got to lose?”
I have always loved food and been a healthy eater, but it seemed that practically everything I was putting into my mouth that was made from any form of processed flour, was making me sick. This included all sandwiches, GF breads or biscuits, rolls, flour tortillas & desserts made from any type of flour or any pasta. I was almost out of my mind.
I began praying for God to give me an answer. Then, just a few days later, a friend who also mills her own grain, brought me a loaf of REAL bread to try. She knew how sick I’d been and she wanted to help me. I was terrified to eat it because I had been gluten free for years thinking that gluten was my problem. However, I was sick enough to take a leap of faith and try the bread, so I prayed & then ate my first piece of REAL bread. IT WAS DELICIOUS AND I DIDN’T GET SICK! God had answered my prayer in the best way. It was the processed flours & not gluten that had been my problem. I now know why Jesus says, “I am the bread of life.”
Not to get preachy, but there are so many scripture verses that make us realize why bread has been so important since the beginning of time. God gave us grain for a reason. In bible times, bread was needed to survive:
“No one shall take a mill or an upper millstone in pledge, for that would be taking a life in pledge.” Deuteronomy 24:6
In other words, people had to have their mills for grinding their grain in order to make bread, eat and live.
“And the Lord said to Moses, “I have heard the grumbling of the people of Israel. Say to them, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God.” Exodus 16:11-12
God provided Quail and Manna (bread like substance) for the children of Israel to eat while they wandered in the wilderness.
You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you.” Exodus 23:25
During the giving of the laws and ordinances to the children of Israel, Moses tells them that if they obey God’s commands, he will bless their bread and take sickness away from them.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35
Bread was vital to life. Jesus is vital to our life, so much so that he refers to himself as the “bread of life,” He is the REAL bread.
“Give us this day our daily bread,” Matthew 6:11
You’ll recognize that passage of scripture if you are familiar with the Lord’s prayer. Jesus could have mentioned any type of food here, when we are praying for God to give us what we need, but he specifically says “bread.”
“I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” John 6:48-51
“I hope that you will see that both nutritional & spiritual REAL bread are vitally important to our daily lives. You won’t find earthly, nutritional REAL bread that your body needs outside of eating freshly milled grain– & it is impossible to find heavenly, living REAL bread outside of Jesus.” –Trina Layne
